What is a Comfort Cub?

- A Comfort Cub is a therapeutic weighted (4 pounds) teddy bear.
- The outside of the Cub is made of a soft furry fabric.
- The inside is filled with weighted pea-sized beads which provide healing through deep touch pressure.
- A gender-neutral color bow is tied around the Cub’s neck. In addition, there is a removable card that comes tied around the neck of the Cub.
- The weighted Comfort Cub provides healing comfort in the arms of a person experiencing Broken Heart Syndrome, also known as Takotsubo Syndrome.
Marcella’s Story
After losing her newborn son, George, to a life-limiting congenital condition, Marcella Johnson found that holding a heavy object to her chest soothed the symptoms of her grief-induced Broken Heart Syndrome. Marcella would go on to create the Comfort Cub and found the Comfort Cub Program, a nonprofit that distributes these therapeutic, weighted teddy bears to grieving individuals all across the nation.
Whether it’s the loss of a newborn, the passing of a pet, or any other form of grieving, the Comfort Cub provides warmth and endless hugs for whoever needs them.
